Surviving a nuclear attack? How would you go about it? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

I do consider myself quite a beginner prepper with a bit of food and water stockpiled, as well as an emergency kit, but I have been seeing more and more people preparing for a nuclear attack.

Obviously, the best way to prepare for this is to look at a bunker in-home or a basement but for us peasants (most of us I assume) it becomes a really interesting game of survival. I did come across this nuclear survival...

Instagrams All Caught Up Feature to Ease Your FOMO "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Instagrams decision to move away from a simple chronological feed to an algorithm-based stream can make it difficult to keep track of whether youve seen everything new from people you follow. But help is on the way: Instagram is now testing an All Caught Up message to let you know when youre up to speed.

TechCrunch reports that some users have begun seeing the feature Instagram often tests prospective features among a subset of users prior to rolling it out to all while scrolling through their feeds. Once youve browsed through everything new over the past couple of days, Instagram will insert a message mid-feed to alert you.

The message reads: Youre All Caught Up Youve seen all new posts from the past 48 hours.

Screenshot via TechCrunch

While the message seems to suggest that the alert covers all posts from everyone you follow, Instagram declined to confirm to TechCrunch that an algorithm isnt involved in determining whats worth showing you.

The feature is part of a movement (called time well spent) among social media services to help users keep track of time in order to promote wellness. Another big one thats on the way is...

We Tried to Report on the Opioid Epidemic but Our Perc Guy Got Busted. Do You Know Anybody? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

The opioid epidemic is tearing Americas communities apart and here at Hard Style we are not afraid of delving into the opioid underworld to get the real answers to the questions mainstream media is too afraid to ask. That being said, the guy we usually buy our percocets from got raided by the police last week and we cant get the answers, or drugs, were looking for.

Now before you get all self-righteous and say we are contributing to the problem, let me ask you this: Do you know a guy? We really want to get to the bottom of this issue and expose the seedy underbelly of the narcotics trade. So, really, no one? Not even a friend of a friend? Im not a cop if thats what you think. What about when your dad hurt his back? Does he have any Vicodin left over? You know, so I can ask him questions.

Seriously though, I fell off my skateboard and just need some Oxy to tide me over until I feel better. Id go to the doctor but I cant afford it. The American healthcare system is a joke, am I right? But that is an investigative story for another time. Right now I just really need you to give me the name of a supplier for this story! Quit holding out on me, man. I NEED this story.

Related: Ive Been Experimenting With Drugs and It Turns out They Work

The second part of the article would be about the scourge that is heroin. A lot of people switch to heroin because it is cheaper and easier to come by than pills. So, do you know anyone who has some who I can talk to for a quick sec. I would never do heroin by the way. Its highly addictive and ruins lives. Thats why Id only do it once. Twice tops. Three times if my guy doesnt make parole. Because one thing I AM addicted to is investigative journalism. So see, its cool, Im not a junkie, I can handle it.

Oh shit, maybe for the third part of the story I check myself into a methadone clinic. You know, undercover- just to see how those places really tick. Ill act like I am going through withdrawal and that I let my life disintegrate to such a point where Im fired from a freelancing gig at a shitty blog who cant even hook me up with a reliable perc guy.

How Bitcoin Cash Can Avoid the Same Mistakes as Bitcoin Core, Part 4 of 4

The following opinion piece on Bitcoin Cash was written by Jonald Fyookball

Weve already discussed 3 reasons why the bitcoin project was subverted: lack of education, lack of clarity, and centralized development. Today I will proffer two more: censorship and propaganda were allowed to run rampant; miners didnt understand their power and responsibility. Last Friday, Coingeek.com held a fantastic conference in Hong Kong on the topic of blockchain commerce. The conference concluded with a panel discussion featuring 3 of the most well-known thought leaders in the Bitcoin Cash community: Roger Ver, Dr. Craig Wright, and Jihan Wu. Each of them said something important that pertains to these topics.

Bitcoin Cash Avoiding Censorship

Censorship is an obvious barrier to an educated community and is motivated by a desire to control the narrative. Thus, it goes hand-in-hand with propaganda and the active promotion of misinformation.

Joanne Greenbaum, Untitled (2018), enamel on porcelain, 5 1/2 x 4 3/4 x 4 1/2 inches (image courtesy of the artist and 56 Henry)

The New York-based artist Joanne Greenbaum, is well known for her abstract painting. We have the pleasure now of learning about her small sculptures and commitment to making artist books. For her latest show Caput Mortuum, on view at 56 Henry, 10 years worth of paintings are re-imagined as sculpture. The work runs the gamut of shapes painted in hues of saturated color, gradients, scribbles, to drips. The sculptures are stacked in an installation on a table, either encased in, or on top of, clear plexiglass boxes. Greenbaum and I spoke about how she developed her sculptural practice and how it influences her other work.

Samuel Jablon: How long have you been making sculpture, and have they always been ceramic?

Joanne Greenbaum: I started making sculpture in 2003 and 2004 but not in clay. I made some very small things in sculpey and some other air-dry materials. I wanted at first to understand some of the things in my paintings that resembled sculptures or fictional structures. Initially it was the bright colors of the sculpey that I responded to and then the ability to make something fast and bake it in the oven. I didnt think it would be something I would pursue, and made these things as notes and three-dimensional drawings for the studio, to have on my table to look...

Shutterbug Kills Print Magazine, Goes Web-Only After 45 Years "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Shutterbug has announced that its ending its photography print magazine after 45 years, moving forward as an entirely Web-based publication.

Shutterbug magazine had a great run, but the media landscape has changed dramatically in the last 4+ decades, and we felt now was the time for Shutterbug to become a dynamic, web-only publication, Editor-in-Chief Dan Havlik says. Shutterbug.com has grown dramatically in recent years with record traffic and expanded reach to photographers around the world. We can now dedicate all our resources to further growing our online presence and expanding our video, social media, mobile and e-commerce channels.

As readers have increasingly turned to the Internet to consume content over the past several years, many print magazines have been finding it difficult to adapt to change. Some have killed off their print editions to survive, while others have folded their operations entirely.

Popular Photography was a staple of the photo industry for 80 years before it completely closed shop in March 2017, leaving its website as an archive of old articles.

But Shutterbug sees a path forward through the Internet. The magazine says that Shutterbug.com traffic has increased over 700% in the four years since Havlik took his post, and the magazine has amassed a sizable following on social media with over one million combined followers.

A selection of Shutterbug print magazine covers.

Havlik says it wasnt a plummeting of print magazine subscribers that forced the decision to kill it, but rather its financial sustainability.

Circulation has actually been quite strong and we had a devoted print magazine audience, Havlik tells PetaPixel. We were still at around 10...

An Active Shooter Open Fires on a Crowd. What Do You Do? "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

[Editors Note: A rising epidemic is growing in this country that no one seems to know how to quell. According to a recent study, there are more mass shootings in the United States than in any other country in the world. Equally as sobering is the fact that Americanstend to suffer from mental disorders more than any other country. Could this be coincidental?

While there is no universal definition of a mass shooting, one can surmise this country has a big problem and the numbers speak for themselves. Thus far, 2018 has seen close to 100 mass shootings occur across the country. The numbers are sobering to say the least and show that something is very wrong and has sprawled nationwide debates on every subject from gun control to protection.

The fact is, we have always had a false sense of security in this country and many of us are unprepared on how to handle a situation of an active shooter opening fire. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security believes in a whole community approach to preparedness and have created workshops to help others prepare. Civilian-based companies are also seeing the need for essential training in this matter and active shooter response training companies for schools, healthcare systems, houses of worship and businesses are trying to help others get prepared.

With mass shootings increasing, we should all have a plan in advance if faced with this type of devastating emergency. While the situation and location matter,...

Power Outage Leads To Extreme Zombie Alert In Florida City "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Lake Worth, Florida falsely sent out a zombie alert during a power outage causing some concern among residents. The Lake Worth community Facebook page claims the message was unintended.

The message was sent during a power outage at about 1:45 a.m., but it contained the additional warning of a zombie alert for Lake Worth and Terminus, potentially referencing the city in the zombie TV show The Walking Dead. The notice declared: There are now far less than seven-thousand-three-hundred-eighty customers involved due to extreme zombie activity.

Lake Worths announcement was apologized for in their Facebook post.  We are looking into reports that the system mentioned zombies, said Ben Kerr, the citys public information officer, in the post. I want to reiterate that Lake Worth does not have any zombie activity currently and apologize for the system message. According to the post, Kerr said 7,880 customers were affected and that power was restored within only 27 minutes.

Zombies have increased in popularity in recent years thanks, in part, to the TV series The Walking Dead.  Although zombies are not real (unless you consider the countless Americans walking around unaware of their surroundings with their faces locked onto their phones) people seem to often have an interesting response to such alerts.

But as the above video points out, the zombie apocalypse is already here.  And it could be just as scary as humans infected with a virus which gives them an undead appearance and demeanor.

Train companies are hoping that recent changes in the timetables will lead to todays trains being so late, they will be on time for tomorrow. With average delays currently running at 19 hours, an additional 5 hours of delays will see the project celebrated as a success.

However, Great Northern have apologised to customers for only having average delays of 5 hours following the changes, but have promised to work hard to get trains running as late as possible over the coming days.

Bill Gates Names 5 Books You Should Read This Summer "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

It's something of a tradition. Every summer, philanthropist/Microsoft founder Bill Gates recommends five books to read during the slow summer months. This year's list, he tells us, wrestles with some big questions: "What makes a genius tick? Why do bad things happen to good people? Where does humanity come from, and where are we headed?"

And now, without no further ado, here's Bill's list for 2018. The text below is his, not mine:

Leonardo da Vinci, by Walter Isaacson. I think Leonardo was one of the most fascinating people ever. Although today hes best known as a painter, Leonardo had an absurdly wide range of interests, from human anatomy to the theater. Isaacson does the best job Ive seen of pulling together the different strands of Leonardos life and explaining what made him so exceptional. A worthy follow-up to Isaacsons great biographies of Albert Einstein and Steve Jobs. [Read his blog post on the book here.]

Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies Ive Loved, by Kate Bowler. When Bowler, a professor at Duke Divinity School, is diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer, she sets out to understand why it happened. Is it a test of her character? The result is a heartbreaking, surprisingly funny memoir about faith and coming to grips with your own mortality. [Read his blog post on the book here.]

Lincoln in the Bardo, by George Saunders. I thought I knew everything I needed to know about Abraham Lincoln, but this novel made me rethink parts of his life. It blends historical facts from the Civil War with fantastical elementsits basically a long conversation among 166 ghosts, including Lincolns deceased son. I got new insight into the way Lincoln must have been crushed by the weight of both grief and responsibility. This is one of those fascinating, ambiguous books youll want to discuss with a friend when youre done. [Read his blog post on this book here.]

NPC Really Overdoing His One Line "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

VADAROK CASTLE At the edge of East Hills, an area reserved for player resupply in between quests, sources report that a nondescript man known only as Guard bellows the same warning to all passerby with a hearty laugh and a gusto typically reserved for townsfolk with something important to say.

Better watch for the spiders in that forest! shouts the Guard, seemingly anytime he is approached.

His boisterous nature recently caught the attention and concern of wandering crusader John Mandible, who is preparing for a journey into the historically cursed Black Forest.

Read More From Hard Drive: Inspiring: This Mentally Impaired Blacksmith Continues to Hold Down His Job Despite Repeating Himself Every Five Seconds

His knowledge and passion really made me think this was someone I needed to get to know, he said. But then it turned out to just be someone trying way too hard to make an impression.

Mandibles follow up visit prompted the Guard to deliver the same information, with a reportedly matched level of enthusiasm. The repeated warnings lacked any details about the extent and severity of the arachnid threat in the forest.

He said it with such fervor, I figured there must be some sort of follow-up; gear to pack, weaknesses to look out for, even how many spiders there are or something, Mandible said. Nope. No specifics. He just yells Better watch for the spiders in that forest! over and over again, like a toddler with no memory. I get that Im supposed to watch out for spiders. I can do that. But, like, who are you trying to impress?

It was like the guys voice came from a struggling actor or something but an actor who isnt very good and really trying to make a splash, Mandible added. I know that probably doesnt make any sense.

When reached for comment, the Guard insisted everyone watch for spiders in [the] forest.

Nardwuar Surprises Canadian Musician With Original Recording of His Funeral "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

VANCOUVER, British Columbia Music journalist and human serviette Nardwuar surprised unknown Canadian musician Randall Hartford with a rare, unreleased recording of his funeral, stunned witnesses confirmed.

We were all having a lot of fun, goofing around with Nardwuar and then, everything took a sharp turn, said Dave Olsen, Hartfords bandmate in up-and-coming Ontario pop-rock band The Minivan. Nardwuar handed him this package with a hollow grin on his face all the audio is apparently from Randalls funeral. Is Randall already dead? Am I dead? Are we in hell? Is Nardwuar the devil himself?

The recording, simply titled The End of Mr. Hartford, featured two and half hours of unedited footage of Hartfords funeral spread across four LPs on limited-edition, red splatter vinyl; an autograph from a priest; and several collectibles.

Look here inside the jacket. Those are roses? Thats right. Roses. Theyre the roses Mrs. Hartford placed on her sons grave on that gray, October morning, said Nardwuar of the gift. And, if you look on the front cover here, you can tell its an original pressing, as look closely youll see the stains of tears from Randalls 7-year-old niece.

Nardwuar then allegedly kneeled down to tell Hartford, Im sure youll love this: it comes with a full poster of your death certificate!

While Hartford reportedly ran away sobbing, witnesses say he did give a sorrowful, Doo doo, to Nardwuar at the conclusion of the interview. Its a traumatizing listen, but it did sound crisp, Hartford later admitted when reached for comment.

sewing: rayon challis biscayne blouse "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

This post is written by Kristen of Sewimnewhere.

I had been eyeing the Biscayne Blouse for a few months but the thought of sewing my first placket kept me away. Im a self taught garment sewist, and I hadnt had the courage to learn about plackets just yet. Had I known how in depth and precise Hey Junes directions were, I would have sewn a rayon challis biscayne blouse up sooner.

I chose the navy triangle texture rayon challis (the shop was out as of this post, but this fabric is very similar) because 1- I have a thing for all rayon challis fabrics, and 2- I knew I was going to sew something with it the moment I saw it on the website, and boy, it did not disappoint!

Upon printing the instructions, I was still uncertain about whether my sewing skills were up to the challenge. Im a hands on person, and if I try to just read instructions by themselves I get overwhelmed.

I made up a quick muslin using an old bedsheet and found the all the instructions were clear and concise, and they included extra pointers too. I was so proud of myself finishing that first placket, even if it was out of a sheet and destined to live in my sewing room.

When I started on my- oh so soft- rayon challis, I went slow and precise cutting out the pattern. I find when attaching fusible to smaller pieces its easier for me to attach a larger piece of fusible and then cut the pattern piece straight out of the fabric with the fusible attached. Everything stays put, and it keeps shifty rayon fabric from stretching on me.

However, on my next blouse, I will only add fusible to part of the right placket piece as I feel the placket ended up a little stiff and heavy for the rest of the blouse.......

Sweden Warns Every Single Household to Prep for WAR "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

This report was originally published by Daisy Luther at The Organic Prepper

The government of Sweden has produced a 20-page pamphlet which theyll be sending to each of the 4.8 million households in the country urging them to get prepared forWAR.

Although they havent been at war for over 200 years, for some reason, right now, they want their citizens to get prepped and fast. This goes along with an article I wrote in January of 2018 when the government urged their people to be ready to cope without help for at least a week.

Shortly before Christmas, the Swedish government quietly published a paper called Resilience. Initially, the requirement had been for people to be prepared for 3 days without help, but it seems like that was a baby step. The government itself wants to be prepared for a 3-month long civil emergency and theyre urging citizens to take responsibility, too.

It really makes you wonder what is looming ahead, doesnt it? (source)

This, however, is a direct approach, with the preparedness instructions delivered to their doors.

Heres what the government of Sweden is recommending.

  • disruptions to IT systems
  • incidents occurring in the rest of the world
  • climate change
  •  increased tension in the Baltic region

Swarovski Crystal Sculptures by Daniel Jacob Immortalize Popsicles, Sneakers, and Other Pop Culture Icons "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Artist Daniel Jacob began making art in Chicago in the early 1990s, channeling his ideas into sculptures and works on paper. After spending most of his career in business, he has returned to his love of art. His current practice experiments with crystals and stones to create pop culture-inspired sculptures of dripping popsicles, Air Jordan sneakers, animals, and elements of city infrastructure, like sewer grates.

Each of Jacobs works begin as three-dimensional scans which are then sculpted into cast resin and finally topped by hand with hundreds of thousands of multi-colored Swarovski crystals. A few of Jacobs sculptures are currently on view at the recently opened Nonfinito Gallery in New York through May 31, 2018. You can see more of the artists work on his website and Instagram.

Japans Largest Bank to Run Blockchain Payments Network by Early 2020 "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Blockchain technology is making inroads in the financial sector. Banks are experimenting with this technology for various purposes. Japans biggest bank is ready to take things to the next level. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group or MUFG is partnering with Akamai to handle up to 1 million transactions per second.

MUFG has a Bold Plan of Action

For several years now, banks have been experimenting with blockchain technology. After multiple trials, tests, and proofs of concept, the first real-world implementation is coming to market soon. Japans MUFG is working on this feature as of right now. Together with US-based Akamai, the bank will commence the commercialization of blockchain payments.

The new blockchain being developed will mainly focus on a high throughput. Up to 1 million transactions per second will be supported. Additionally, the platform will confirm such transfers within 2 seconds or less. Even batches of transactions will adhere to this same schedule, which will introduce a lot of exciting opportunities.

Further scaling of the MUFG blockchain network is on the agenda. In future iterations, the solution will scale to 10 million transactions per second. Compared to Bitcoins infrastructure, that is a vast and radical improvement. This ledger system is built on Akamais cloud service, known as Akamai Intelligent Platform.

Disrupting the Financial Industry

It is important to note MUFG is not looking to use a public blockchain like Bitcoins. Instead, the collaboration with Akamai focuses on a permissioned infrastructure. Only verified members can join the network which orders and confirms payments. It is not the decentralized approach per se, but it can make a big impact moving forward. MUFG President and group CEO Nobuyuki Hirano comments:

For years, the financial industry has sought to utilize blockchain to secure and hasten transaction processing, and lower associated costs, This ne...

That Summer Offers a More Human Look at the Women of Grey Gardens "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Little Edie Beale singing and Lee Radziwill in the garden of Grey Gardens in That Summer by Gran Olsson (courtesy Sundance Selects)

In 1975, a cult-hit documentary turned a pair of celebrity-adjacent recluses into unlikely pop icons. Grey Gardensfrom filmmaking siblings Albert and David Maysles and co-directors Muffie Meyer and Ellen Hovde, made the titular Long Island manor into an instant cultural signifier for faded glory and eccentric womanhood. The movie is equally beloved by cinephiles, who appreciate its position in the history of direct cinema, and camp enthusiasts, who idolize its unique, extremely quotable lead subjects, the Beales. Popular fascination with that mother-daughter pair would lead various creators back to them over the years, even after their deaths. But before all that, there was a different, abandoned film project featuring the Beales. The new documentary That Summer is not just another movie cashing in on Grey Gardens interest, but a peek back through the decades into a formerly closed-off piece of history.

Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale (Big Edie) and her daughter Edith Bouvier Beale (Little Edie) might have gone unseen by the wider world, historical footnotes for the fact that they were the aunt and cousin, respectively, of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. By 1972, they were black sheep to the old money Bouvier clan, having secluded themselves for 20 years in Grey Gardens, their onetime East Hampton summer home. Long cut out of all wills and bereft of any funds, the Beales were unable to maintain the 28-room house, which by that year was derelict and rife with stray cats (among other wildlife) and fleas. The county health department was prepared to destroy the house, but a New York Magazine article brought wide attention to the Bealess plight, and Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis and her sister Lee Radziwill funded a cleanup effort.

Paul Ribeyrolles was the manager of the Gladiator bicycle factory, and by 1918 he had significant experience in small arms design, having been a core member of the team that designed and built the 1915 CSRG Chauchat automatic rifle and the RSC-1917 semiautomatic rifle. These were forward-looking weapons, the first of their types ever to be successfully used in combat. Ribeyrolles continued to pursue the next generation of infantry small arms, and in the summer of 1918 he presented his 1918 automatic rifle for military testing at Versailles.

The model 1918 met most of the requirements to be considered an assault rifle by todays standards it used an intermediate cartridge, it could fire in both semiautomatic and fully automatic modes, and it was fed by detachable box magazines (with a capacity of 25 rounds). The cartridge it used was a modification of the .351 Winchester WSL cartridge, modified to be semi-rimmed and to use an 8mm Lebel armor-piercing bullet. Unlike modern weapons of this type, however, Ribeyrolles rifle used a simple blowback action and this required a quite heavy bolt to work properly. Unloaded, the weapon weighed 11.25 pounds (5.1kg), and the long receiver necessary for the bolt to effectively decelerate gave it an overall length of 1.09m (43 inches) this was long and heavy for its capabilities. Still, it was conceptually pretty advanced for 1918.

The biggest problem which prevented the gun from seeing any military interest was reliability. At the 1918 trials, it was very unreliable the one source I sound said that 53 malfunctions were had in 75 rounds of semiautomatic fire. That is definitely a sign of a design not ready for adoption!

Ribeyrolle brough the gun back for more testing in the summer of 1921 at Camp de Chalons, but it does not appear that he had fully cured the reliability problems. In addition, the guns futuristic concept left it out of place in the arms lineup envisioned by the French military. It was too heavy and bulky to fill the role of a personal weapon like a submachine gun (note that the SMG ult...

Satoshi Nakamoto is a Female: Women in the Cryptocurrency Industry "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Is Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious, anonymous creator of Bitcoin the original cryptocurrency, actually a woman?

In 2008 Nakamoto authored a white paper describing the most famous crypto, from which all other cryptos have spawned. In a community and industry dominated by men, the statement Satoshi is a female a theory promoted by Carolyn Maloney, a New York Congresswoman, at the Women on the Block event in Brooklyn on May 13 is extremely provocative. For many of them, it is akin to suggesting that Jesus was a girl.

Ms. Maloney may have had her tongue in her cheek, but her comment highlights a serious point: are the contributions of women in the cryptocurrency world being diluted?

In a male-heavy tech industry, this is an all-too-familiar theme. Most of us believe that men invented computers and the internet, and almost everything else, in fact.

However, the reality is a little more nuanced; pioneers such as Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper the worlds first computer programmer, and the person to coin the term debugging, respectively should play a more prominent role in the telling of the history of tech. Indeed, without the input of them and countless other women we may not have made the breakthroughs that have paved the current digital landscape.

This is a particularly tender subject at the moment, hence the need for the Women on the Block meeting, which attracted 300 people to discuss cryptos and blockchain tech. In February, Elizabeth Stark, the chief executive officer of Lightning Labs, and a blockchain whiz tweeted her frustration at being repeatedly quizzed about what it is like to be a woman in the crypto space. Stop marginalizing [sic] and write about the awesome work that women are doing, she wrote on the micro-blogging channel.

For those women trying to strive ahead in crypto, their gender should be neither trigger a funding issue nor be a point of sneering curiosity. Regardless, the facts about the underrepresentation of women in positions of privilege and power in the crypto sector as with numerous other industries cannot be sugarcoated.

An international Quartz survey of almost 400 venture-backed crypto and blockchain organisations conducted between January 2012 and January 2018 showed that just over 8 percent of the founding teams were female. That figure swells to 17.7 per cent in the wider tech industry.

The lack of acknowledgement, gender equality, and respect for women could halt the progress of cry...

China State TV: Token Sales Still Rampant After Central Bank Ban "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

China Central Television, the countrys highest level authorities mouthpiece, has hit out in domestic preliminary coin offerings that it states are still uncontrolled, despite a 2017 ban. During its financial news program aired on Monday night, the state media outlet said that the ICO ban issued by the Peoples Bank of China last Sept hadnt discouraged local investors. Instead, a get rich quick attitude is driving a hurry into the cryptocurrency area. CCTV went on to blast the development of what the Chinese crypto community calls air coins a reference to token projects which arent backed by legally registered businesses asserting that the number of air coins has increased by 30 times since the ICO crackdown.

Since many businesses have moved their projects abroad after the ICO ban, many those air coins carried on fundraising in China without migration since theyre loosely arranged as a temporary group, not even a formal business entity, in accordance with the program. To be able to seem to be authentic, the report stated, a typical technique utilized by such projects is to promote their associations with notable cryptocurrency investors, like Li Xiaolai, an ancient bitcoin investor and evangelist at China. 99.99 percent of the time, I am being associate with these projects without knowing it. There is always this fear of falling among investors.

And once they cannot make judgments on their own, they have a tendency to refer to any influential person is associated with the project, Li was quoted as saying in the program. The report summarizes the most recent effort by the Chinese state media to educate the general public about what it considers cryptocurrency marketplace chaos. Additionally, it comes at a time when law enforcement agencies in China are beefing up efforts to crack down on schemes which Use symbolic sales to raise capital from the general public. Failed Bull Breakout Leaves Bitcoin Eyeing Drop to $8K "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Bitcoins failed bull move on Sunday has left the doors open for the bears to make a comeback.
The inverse head-and-shoulders breakout on May 20 indicated a short-term reversal which may have seen bitcoin increase to $9,000 (target as per the measured height method).
Nevertheless, the bulls ran out of steam at a high of $8,644 yesterday and costs had fallen back to $8,240 at time of writing a fall of 2.8 percent over the last twenty four hours, according to Bitfinex.
The decrease did not come as a surprise, though, given the breakout lacked volume support, and a fall to $8,000 could currently be on the cards.
1-hour chart

As seen from the chart above, BTC dropped back beneath the inverse head-and-shoulders neckline yesterday, weakening the bulls and has generated a lower-high and lower-low pattern (bearish setup).
Assuming a failed breakout usually suggests a bigger-picture bearish reversal, in this case it means the corrective rally from the low of $7,925 has finished as well as the sell-off from the May 5 high $9,990 has declared. Therefore, prices could fall beneath the immediate aid of $8,207 (50 percent Fibonacci retracement) seen from the daily chart below.
Daily chart

A break below $8,207 (50 percent Fibonacci retracement) would reinforce the bearish setup seen from the hourly chart and would allow a fall to $8,000.
Note, though, the 5-day and 10-day moving averages are starting to curl upward, so if the price moves above $8,408 (daily high), the bulls may make a comeback.
View

BTC looks set to take out service at $8,207 and fall to $8,000 in the next twenty five hours.
A daily close (as per UTC) below $8,000 will indicate a revival of the sell-off from the May 5 large of $9,990. In this case, bitcoin could endure a deeper sell-off towards $7,500.
On the higher side, a move above $8,408 would open the doors to $8,858 (100-day moving average).
A daily close above that level would indicate a bullish trend reversal and may yield rally to $10,000.

This dog adopted 9 orphan ducklings and its the only story you need today "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Drop everything else and take a moment to appreciate Fred, the 10-year-old Labrador who has done the decent thing and adopted 9 orphan ducklings.

Whos a good boy then?

And here he is in action at Mountfitchet Castle in Essex.

Heres how the good people of Buzzfeed reported the story today.

Staff said they were concerned to find the ducklings waddling around on their own, and their mother was nowhere to be seen whereupon Fred stepped in.

In a statement, the castle said: The ducklings absolutely adore him and he has now resigned himself to being a stay at home dad looking after the 9 baby ducklings. They are getting very mischievous even hitching a ride on his back and following him in to the water for a swim in the castle moat.

And heres what people were making of the story online.

Ed Sheeran Should Embrace The Pro-Life Message In His Song Small Bump "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Ed Sheeran is mad that pro-lifers are playing his song Small Bump to encourage voters to vote against a referendum to repeal Irelands abortion ban.

I have not given approval for this use, Sheeran wrote in an Instagram story last week after learning that pro-lifers were playing the song in Dublins city center, according to The Guardian. It does not reflect what the song is about.

On Friday, Irish voters will decide if they want to repeal eighth amendment of their constitution which outlaws abortion unless the life of the mother is at risk. In the song about an unborn baby that dies before it is born, Sheeran describes what the baby looks like.

Youre just a small bump unknown, youll grow into your skin
With a smile like hers and a dimple beneath your chin
Finger nails the size of a half grain of rice, and eyelids closed to be soon opened wide
A small bump, in four months youll open your eyes.

He concludes the song by saying that he cant understand why the baby lost his or her life in the womb.

Cause you were just a small bump unborn for four months then torn from life
Maybe you were needed up there but were still unaware as why.

If we take Sheeran at his word that the song is not about abortion and we should, as he wrote it it doesnt put the song at odds with the pro-life message that life inside the womb is precious and deserves protection. Whether a babys life was lost at the hands of an abortionist or in a miscarriage, it is still a tragedy that deserves to be mourned. Acknowledging that a baby is human in the womb and that in a matter of months he will open his eyes and take his first breath is to recognize truth, which is so often shunned from pro-choice rhetoric.

If one accepts the scientific truth that life begins at conception and that a baby is a baby with its own unique genetic information from day one, then one cannot favor abortion. While much of the public debate between pro-lifers and pro-choicers centers around the legality of abortion, the difference between the two sides is much simpler than that. One side affirms the humanity of the unborn and believes tiny humans are worthy of the right to life, and the other side does not see it that way.

A Roving Performance Art Festival Works to Break Down Binaries "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

The 2018 edition of the diverse, cosmopolitan, and true to its name roving Itinerant Performance Art Festival is in its second and final week as it makes its way across all five boroughs. After Sundays program at Staten Island Arts and yesterdays symposium at La Guardia Community College, the festival continues at the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance (today), Smack Mellon (Wednesday), the BMCC Theater Program (Thursday), and the Kockdown Center (Friday).

The Itinerant Festivals varied programming (curated by artist Hector Canonge) boasts a unifying motif befitting a year that thus far has been defined by political divisiveness and seemingly unbridgeable chasms between  this years works all explore alternatives to binary identity constructions, whether pertaining to gender, identity, nationality, or other categories.

Through live performances and videos, the festival boasts performing artists working in a range of idioms, from pieces informed by the aesthetics of experimental theater, contemporary music, clowning, and more. As Hyperallergic critics noted last year in writing about Itinerant, such series are often impossible for any one person to write about and see in their entirety. The sheer scope, on the other hand, allows for an impressive showcase of expression. This years program is no less sprawling, but for my money the most alluring program is Thurs...

Discover David Lynchs Bizarre & Minimalist Comic Strip, The Angriest Dog in the World (1983-1992) "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Most David Lynch fans discover him through his films. But those of us who read alternative weekly newspapers in their 1980s and 90s heyday may well have first encountered his work in another medium entirely: the comic strip. Like many of the best-known examples of the form, Lynch's comic strip stars an animal, specifically a dog, but a dog "so angry he cannot move. He cannot eat. He cannot sleep. He can just barely growl. Bound so tightly with tension and anger, he approaches the state of rigor mortis." That text, which prepared readers for a reading experience some way from Marmaduke, introduced each and every edition of The Angriest Dog in the World, which ran between 1983 and 1992.

During that entire time, the strip's artwork never changed either: four panels in which the titular dog strains against a rope staked down in a suburban backyard, in the last of which night has fallen. The sole variation came in the word bubbles that occasionally emerged from the window of the house, presumably representing the voice of the dog's owners.

You can see a few examples at Lynchnet. "If everything is real... then nothing is real as well," it says one week. On another: "It must be clear to even the non-mathematician that the things in this world just don't add up to beans." Or, in a nod to the region of The Angriest Dog in the World's home paper the LA Reader: "Bill... who is this San Andreas? I can't believe it's all his fault."

"At some point David Lynch called up the editor at the time, James Vowell, and said, Hi, I'd like to do a comic strip for you," says former Reader editor Richard Gehr as quoted by John F. Kelly at Spooky Comics. Every week thereafter, Lynch would phone the Reader to dictate the text of the latest strip. "We would give it to somebody in the production department and they would White Out the panels from the week before and write...

Monacoin Network Still Suffering From Selfless Mining Attack "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

Cryptocurrency networks are under multiple threats on a near-constant basis One of the biggest concerns is the so-called 51% attack. During such an attack, a nefarious individual or group of users can control the network. It appears the Monacoin network has recently gone through such an attack. There is still no solution to the ongoing problem.

The Monacoin Attack Problem

A few days ago, a new topic was opened on the Monacoin subreddit. In this post, it was explained how there was an ongoing issue with the network. One of the mining pools is withholding blocks. As such, network transactions are not processed properly, which causes all kinds of trouble. With one pool controlling the network, a lot of issues can be created in quick succession.

The reason why this is taking place is due to Monacoins mining difficulty re-targeting system. There is a weakness in this system which allows the next network block to be mined very quickly. Additionally, newer blocks can be issued at a rapid pace. While that sounds positive on paper, the reality is very different. No mining entity should effectively control the Monacoin network by any means.

Additional issues include faulty confirmed payments, and double spends. This latter part is a big problem, as it effectively causes the same value to be spent twice or more. Exchanges often detect the correct number of transaction confirmations, but that doesnt mean the value is effectively being transferred. This can be exploited to achieve fake balances on trading platforms and use those to buy other currencies.

Solving the Problem Isnt Easy

There are ways to temporarily deal with these issues. Increasing the number of network confirmations to 100 or more will avoid a lot of issues. Whether or not exchanges and online services will do so, is a different matter altogether. Even so, it is a temporary countermeasure and not a solution to the actual problem.

Royal Reporter fails to say black culture without being a condescending racist "IndyWatch Feed Allcommunity"

While many have applauded the diversity and talent on display at Harry & Meghans wedding, journalists have struggled to find a plaudit that goes beyond what a surprise or nice tan. Too often in the rush to say something complimentary, they reveal that their last interaction with black culture, was watching Different Strokes in 1978.

The very fact of stating how unusual it was to see a range of skin tones in the congregation, points to a worrying disconnect and blatantly ignored the fact the groom was a full on ginga. Said one US commentator: I was very impressed by this black culture we must get ourselves some of that.

When asked, one aristocratic attendee remarked: What a marvellous sceptical! It was very edgy. Very ghetto. They had a vicar, a choir and cellist. All in blackface. It was so incredibly gangsta. So terribly street. They sung, they spoke some had even dressed themselves. Amazing.
Not content with whitesplaining their way through the ceremony, the BBC highlighted how wonderful multi-culturalism is under controlled conditions. The wedding itself concluded, with the US agreeing to return to the Commonwealth; with one royal correspondent explaining: Some of my best friends are princesses.
